Pharmaceutical Sales ð€“ A spark of interest

Having embarked on a career as a medical representative in 1987, I still reflect on the route that led me to the pharmaceutical industry.  Being a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative doesn"t often appear in the list of careers that we aspire to as teenagers hence it is invariably something people come across coincidently.  For me I spent five years in a hospital Biochemistry Dept completing post graduate studies and developing a strong clinical understanding of various diseases and illnesses.  It was here I met Sales Representatives selling laboratory diagnostics and equipment which sparked an interest in sales (I have to admit to being initially impressed by the suit, car and perceived flexibility of their job).  In fact what did appeal to me about a sales role was the inherent challenges working towards targets and ultimately being rewarded (bonus) and recognised for exceeding goals (working in the NHS could not fulfil that need) as well as selling products which genuinely make a difference to people"s lives.

Tips for successful interview

Be assertive: Always be assertive during an interview. Maintain your assertiveness even if you donð€™t know about something which interviewer has asked you; because no one can expect you to know everything he/she asks, but if you feel shy or hesitant while saying no everyone will notice that.

*Use positive body language: If your body language is negative you will convey a message through your non verbal communication that may be altogether different from what you are saying. So be careful about your body language. Use gestures like open palm, arms and open legs.

*Be fully interested in what you are saying: Understand this very carefully if you donð€™t have any interest in what you are saying, no body will be ever  interested to listen what you are saying; so be 100% interested in what you are saying and you will become a magnate.

*Prepare well: Before appearing for interview you should have good knowledge of your resume, organization and technical skills. Make proper research about the company before appearing for interview. Always keep yourself updated on technical aspect, because in todayð€™s era knowledge is backbone of any successful business.

*Maintain eye contact: Always maintain good eye contact with interviewer or with the person you are talking to. A person who can maintain good eye contact always considered to be confident and honest person.

*Be fully enthusiastic: Everyone like enthusiasm than any other quality. So be enthusiastic every single moment and reveal the same from your dress, talk and body language.

*Donð€™t be an actor: No one is looking for an actor. Be yourself as much as possible and understand everyone is unique in this world and your uniqueness will make you more likeable.

*Knock the door: Please take care in case door is closed always knock the door before entering into the room; this shows good mannerism. Before entering into the room ask, ð€ÇMay I come in?ð€Ý

*Seek permission to sit: After entering into the room, greet the interview board with enthusiasm and seek permission to sit.

* Firm shake hand: If your interview wants to shake hand, have a firm shake hand and never have a light shake hand; like shake hand shows lack of interest and energy.

*Becoming a best candidate: Always analyze and think why you are best suitable candidate for this job. Prepare yourself thoroughly and understand the skill sets required to perform a particular job. First of all try to prove yourself how you can contribute best to the advancement of organization and then face the interview board with confidence. Show them why you are most suitable candidate for this job.

Now you know the rules of game; play your game confidently and success will chase you.
